Last week was taken over for me by our Rose Plus production of The Crucible. It is in the nature of community theatre, I suppose, that a long, sporadic rehearsal period is followed by an intensive week dominated by notes that should probably have given much earlier in the process.

Lucy Hughes, head of drama at Tiffin Boys, very kindly invited me to adjudicate the school’s house drama competition last Wednesday. I didn’t really know what to expect and, having worked a lot recently on Ibsen, I suppose I was set for something quite heady and curriculum-based. Far from it.

Last weekend was a pretty busy one for Rose Youth Theatre: the seniors took their two showings of A Doll’s House over to the Arthur Cotterell Theatre in Kingston College. There were some fabulous performances.

Carol Croom, an English teacher at Tolworth Girls School, invited me to work with her students on Monday and run a workshop around the subjects of Victorian literature and ‘love through the ages’.
