Mon 29 Jul - Sat 3 Aug: Hansel & Gretel
With its cast of well-loved fairytale characters - and famous gingerbread house - this adapation of the famous Grimm's tale (seen at the Rose at Christmas) brings together action and adventure, as Hansel and Gretel must fight to save themselves, and their village, from a witch's curse.
Mon 5 - Sat 10 Aug: The Jungle Book
Specially adapted from the novel by Rudyard Kipling, this is a summer favourite and always a popular title. Journey through the forest with man-cub Mowgli, as he learns the law of the jungle from the wolf pack, a wise old panther and a dangerous tiger. Imaginatively designed and staged for a young ensemble.
Mon 12 - Sat 17 Aug: Black Beauty
Anna Sewell's tale of a young horse and his journey from an idyllic farm life to the hardships of working in the city is a classic of children's literature. Adapted specially for the Rose Youth Theatre, this new version brings the story to life for a young cast.
Mon 19 - Sat 24 Aug: Oliver Twist
Charles Dickens' tale of Oliver, a workhouse orphan who is drawn into Fagin's gang of thieves, is still popular and relevant today. Journey with us to the London underworld of the Artful Dodger and Bill Sikes in this specially adapted version.
Mon 26 - Sat 31 Aug: A Midsummer Night's Dream
Shakespeare's most famous summer comedy delivers mistaken identity, mismatched lovers and hilarious rude mechanicals. Join us for the week and enjoy a magical comic adventure in the Athenian forest in our specially adapted youth theatre version.
Tue 27 Aug - Sun 1 Sep
Ages: 16-25 years
The UK is home to some of the most prestigious drama schools in the world, so it’s hardly a surprise that more than one thousand applicants audition for each place. The Rose Academy is a unique and very special course that draws on the expertise of leading drama school facilitators, directors and actors to offer an insight into conservatoire training and techniques to maximise your chances of getting a place on the course you want. We have been running this course for six years, with a great hit rate at schools like RADA, LAMDA, Guildhall, Central, Oxford and East15. Participation on the Academy is by audition only.
