Ignition Dance Festival

A celebration of dance and community

Now in it’s third year, Ignition Dance Festival promises to be bigger and better. Selected from a national competition, six of the UK’s finest choreographers will present new work under one theme Dis-order.

Choreographers featuring in this years festival include:

Cindy Claes
Born and raised in Belgium Cindy creates Dancehall, Krumping and Hiphop Theatre work. Choreographer and dance storyteller her performances touch people's hearst and souls through laughter and tears. Cindy was an ADAD Trailblazer in 2013-2014 and curated the first full Dancehall Theatre night at Sadlers Wells. She has also worked internationally as a performer and by setting up international dance exchanges (1000 Pieces Puzzle).

Salah El Brogy
Hailing from Egypt, dancer, performer and choreographer Salah El Brogy is a graduate of Cairo Opera House Contemporary Dance Theatre School. From 2010-2012, Salah worked as a lead dancer for Akram Khan Company's Vertical Road and upon finishing the production's run, he opened Salah El Brogy Company. Salah has been nominated for Dance London's Emerging Choreographer Award in 2015.

Thomasin Gulgec
Thomasin trained at Swindon Dance and Rambert School. He joined Rambert in 2003 and in his eight years with the company worked with such illustrious figures as Javier de Frutos, Alletta Collins and Fin Walker. He received a Critics Circle Award in 2009 for Outstanding Performance in Hush by Christopher Bruce. Thomasin performs internationally as a freelance dance artist and has worked with Russell Maliphant, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan, Luca Silvestrini's Protein and Young Vic.

Estela Merlos
Born in Barcelona, Estela trained at Escola de Dansa Mado and Central School of Ballet. She danced with Cannes Jeune Ballet before working with Rambert from 2008-2014. She has performed internationally works by Ohad Naharin, Christopher Bruce and Rafael Bonachela among others. As a freelance artist she has worked with Shobana Jeyasingh, Hubert Essakow, New Movement Collective and Patricia Okenwa. Estela was nominated for outstanding dancer of the year by Dance Europe Magazine in 2010.

Jane Coulston
Jane is the Director & Choreographer of Beyond Repair Dance, a contemporary dance company that is renowned for its contemporary movement vocabulary fused with acrobatics and unusual styling. Jane has created work for Glastonbury Festival, Sky 1's Got to Dance, BBC shorts and music videos. After graduating from Trinity Laban, Jane trained further in New York at Dance New Amsterdam. Jane has studied acrobatic arts in Canada. Jane was also selected as future Dance leader for the A.B.L.E leadership program and was named as 'one to watch' by Time Out Magazine.

Sally Marie
Since her training at Central School of Ballet, Sally Marie has performed extensively with Protein Dance, Jasmin Vardimon, Tilted Productions, H2 and Frauke Requart. She was twice voted Best Female Performer by Dance Europe and as well as being nominated for Spotlight Award for new talent and nominated twice as Best Female Performer by National Dance Awards. She won the New Adventures Choreography Award in 2013 and the Childrens Choreography Award in 2014. Her recent production 'I loved you and I loved you' has just toured to twenty venues nationally and was nominated as Best Dance Production by the Welsh Theatre Awards.
